New manager Micky Adams has said that performance against Mansfield gave him a lot to be encouraged by but of course there is a lot of work still to be done.

Speaking to the Official Site following the scoreless draw, Adams was very encouraged by our overall performance and he said the only thing missing from us really was a winning goal.

‘A goal would have been nice and would have capped off a great night because the effort and commitment was all there. We defended fantastically, and I’m not just talking about the goalkeeper and back four, everybody played their part in securing a point.’

Adams goes on to say it’s a point and a good point at that so he’ll willingly take it as something for us to build on, as well as building on the encouraging signs he saw.

He adds that he’s been pleased with the efforts during the few training sessions he’s had and they even held one before the game which was unusual for the side, but he wanted to work a little bit more on the shape he wanted us to adopt.

‘I wanted to play with two front men and get crosses into the box. There are things we can improve on for sure but there was a lot to be encouraged by. We looked threatening from set pieces and were unlucky on a couple of occasions.’

He ends his after match interview by saying that the team talk ahead of the game focused on showing the fans that the side care and that they have pride in the shirt and ourselves and he feels we made a good step towards that and he was delighted with how the crowd responded to our efforts.

With the build up to this weekends game against Wimbledon well underway now, Adams also held another interview where he said he’d been further pleased with the efforts of the players during training since the last game and of course he’s working hard behind the scenes to tweak the squad and get to know them.

‘I’ve been busy, there’s a lot of interest in the club with agents wanting to bring loan players in or players who are unattached. The club is an attraction for players which is nice to here. I’ve been getting to know the staff and the most important thing is I’m getting the learn about the players. We’ve had some good training sessions and they’ve been working really hard. I’ve been really pleased.’
