Left back Andy Taylor has today left Tranmere Rovers to join Championship side Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.

Taylor, 22 joined Tranmere in January 2008 following a successful loan spell from Blackburn Rovers.

In total Taylor has made over 80 appearances for Rovers and scored three goals.

Kevin Blackwell, the Sheffield United manager was delighted to have signed Andy, he told

‘Andy is still young enough to develop and we have been watching him for quite a while.

We regarded him as one of the best left-backs outside the Premiership and that is reflected by the fact that we beat several other Championship clubs to his signature.’

Meanwhile Rovers boss John Barnes admitted he was sad to see Taylor leave but wishes him all the best, he told :

‘It was a good offer from Sheffield United and we decided to allow Andy the chance to move to a higher level.

‘We’re still looking to add to our squad ahead of the season and are talking to a number of clubs about both loan and permanent deals.

‘I’d like to wish Andy all the best for his future career.’

Vital Tranmere would like to wish Andy all the best for the future and thank him for his time at Rovers.
