Manager Gary Brabin has said he continues looking forward following the last two friendlies against Bangor City and Blackburn Rovers.

A one nil defeat to Banger and then a two nil defeat to Championship side Blackburn haven’t dampened the gaffer’s spirits, and he told the Official Site that he was happy with the progress the team were making in terms of their fitness levels and their coming together ahead of the National League kick off next month.

‘I’m really pleased with how pre-season has gone. The lads are fit and working hard. There’s still a lot of work to do on the training ground in terms of little mistakes we made. Despite it only being a pre-season friendly, I was disappointed with the first goal we conceded on Friday against Blackburn because it came from something that we speak about a lot, but we can work on that.’

With Everton’s under 21 side up next and Brabin’s former employers, he admits tonight will see a run out hopefully for James Norwood.

‘James Norwood is training with us and was probably ready to play a part in the Blackburn game but we’re going to save him for the Everton game on Wednesday night and build his fitness up a bit more before he plays.’

Of course with the season’s real kick off a few weeks away, we continue to look at trialists and continue scouring the market for other bargains that can add to our strength in 2015-16 and on the recruitment front, Brabin went on to add.

‘I think the triallists did well against Blackburn. The way we planned our pre-season, we wanted to do the first 10 days with the first team, development players and youth team and then we’ve invited trialists in and we’ve had a few over the last 10 days to two weeks. We’ve had a good look at them and we’re whittling it down to the people we’re really looking at and want to see a little bit more of.’

As for strengthening more specifically, he added.

‘We’ve definitely got goals in us but there are other ways of making that happen and they’re areas we’re looking at. We have a couple of things in mind but we certainly won’t be panicking. We had Liam Ridehalgh and Lois Maynard playing in the wide midfield positions on Friday, and they both did well, but I think we need someone more natural in those areas. I think we’re missing a little bit of pace and power in the final third.’
