League Two side Chester City have made enquiries over two Rovers players. One is former Chester-man, Kevin Ellison, the other is fans favourite, goalkeeper John Achterberg

Kevin, predominantly a left midfielder, had an indifferent season with Rovers. At first he was in the first team, but as the season progressed, and the form of youngster Steve Davies peaked, Ellison found it hard to make his mark and has subsequently been forced to mainly sitting on the bench. Having cost Tranmere £50k just last summer, Rovers might be reluctant to let him go on a free, or probably not knowing Tranmere.

However, if “Big John” leaves Rovers, many fans would not be too happy. But, John has been blighted with injuries this season, and there have been rumours that he will either leave or retire. Achterberg had been a key figure in Tranmere`s first team for the past couple of seasons.

Chester City chairman, Stephen Vaughan had this to say on the matter of the possible signature of former player, Kevin Ellison “Bobby Williamson [the newly appointed Chester manager] has identified Kevin [Ellison] as a player who would improve our squad so I have made an approach to Tranmere.”

On the other hand, we are yet to hear anything on the “released list”, there are reports on the radio and internet that players such as Danny Harrison, Jason McAteer, Gavin Ward and Olly James have all been released.

Also, according to Radio City, Tranmere are close to their first signing of the season, with Huddersfield midfielder, Adnan Ahmed being reportedly having a medical at the club.
