Tranmere dropped out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last night with a 2-1 defeat to Fleetwood Town, and Ronnie Moore has again had to look at the defence following the loss.

All season so far Tranmere have suffered from defensive mistakes, and the Oldham game proved to be a nice turnaround and Moore would’ve no doubt wanted the team to build on that cleansheet moving forward, but it wasn’t to be and the manager has been left to tell the Official Site that if you defend like that in matches, you aren’t going to beat many teams.

‘All we’ve got to do is keep the ball. I thought in the first half we played well though we’d not created as many chances as we’d have liked. It was just a matter of starting the second half well, but you look at the two goals – it doesn’t matter what shape you’re playing if you defend like that then you’re not going to win many games.’

The gaffer has also admitted he won’t be able to call on Jason Koumas, Andy Robinson or James Wallace for the game against Stevenage.

The trio missed the game against Fleetwood with injury, and they haven’t progressed far enough to be in consideration for the next league game either.

Koumas is likely to miss the next three weeks with a groin strain, Wallace has had an injection in the back of his knee which means he’ll be out for the next 10 days, and although Robinson is closer, the weekend still comes too quickly for him.

I also believe we’ll be without Owain fon Williams for the match, although that’s expected to be confirmed tomorrow.
