Our second win of the league season against Morecambe yesterday left manager Rob Edwards pretty happy, especially as it was his first home win since taking charge of the team.

A brace from Cole Stockton gave us all three points at Prenton Park, and the gaffer also had pleasure in seeing us come from behind to take the victory given the opposition took the first half lead.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, a somewhat relieved Edwards explained.

‘We needed a home win and we needed a good performance. We got a good performance in the first half and found ourselves a goal down. I said to the players to keep believing and that I believe in them, I told them before the game that this is a great club and that we’ve got to take it forward and crack on.’

Edwards says that having had good possession of the ball in the first period, he didn’t feel we were doing enough with it, especially in terms of chances on goal and as soon as we started to go more direct, and with the obvious introduction of Kayode Odejayi, our efforts started to pay off thankfully and the chances came for Stockton to create himself a memorable day.

‘We’ve got to pull together, we’ve got an honest bunch and I just need them to be a little bit more tough, aggressive and streetwise – there’s plenty of ability.’

Speaking himself following the game, Stockton said he couldn’t have asked for the day to go any better, especially after signing a new contract earlier in the week, so to top that off with two goals and three points was ideal.

‘It felt great. As soon as the first one went in and they got one sent off, we knew we had to push and make the most of our advantage. Luckily we did. I couldn’t ask for a better week, I’m made up.’
