Manager Rob Edwards has said that Tranmere simply must take confidence from our penalty shoot out victory over Carlisle United in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy the other night and take that into our next league encounter and build on it so we can get another victory.

Speaking to the Official Site follwoingt he game the gaffer explained.

‘We’ve won but it was a struggle at times. I think it shows us all where the players are confidence wise. We still looked fragile, not confident and nervous at times. But we’ve won and it gives us a platform. Hopefully we’ve hit the bottom and we’re going to bounce.’

Edwards goes on to say he was delighted that Ben had now got the experience or scoring a winning penalty behind him because facing that pressure and coming out on top will do his development the world of good, especially his mental strength and those are the kinds of breaks and experiences the team need to have to turn around our ‘poor run in the league.’

Edwards adds that the only way out of this is encouragement and to stick together, and he’s hoping he can do what’s needed in training and help the players take all they can from this game now so we can ‘kick start’ our season properly.

The pleasing thing for him is he can see the players not giving up, he can see them fighting and he needs more of the same now until this form truly turns.
