Midfielder Matt Gill has been named as Rob Edwards’ assistant manager.

The 33 year old came to the club over the summer with more than 500 first team appearances to his name in his career, and he joined us as a player coach and having worked closely with the gaffer since his arrival, he’s now been promoted to the assistant manager role.

Gill will continue as part of the playing squad in his new souped up role and speaking to the Official Site Edwards said of his appointment.

‘I’m delighted to have Matt working alongside me. He fits in really well with our coaching staff and has given me some great input since he has been here. He’s got a fantastic will to win and I know he’ll be doing everything he can to pass that onto the players.’

Edwards goes on to say that he’ll continue to remain an important part of the playing squad despite the role, as his experience and enthusiasm is a key part of the dressing room make up.

Gill himself has said that he felt honoured to be asked, and it was a no brainer in accepting the position as although he’s only been at the club for a short period of time really, he’s enjoyed his time so far and he wants to play his part in helping us to push on.
