The Jamaican International picked up his fifth booking of the season over the weekend in a match against Brighton and as a result will be forced to sit out of the clash at St Mary`s.

As much as manager Les Parry would have liked to call on the services of the defender, he has got a number of replacements lined up on the bench. Max Blanchard has been playing at right-back for Rovers this season but his preferred position is in the centre. If Leeds loanee Liam Darville can pass fit for Saturday than Blanchard would be the obvious choice to fill the gap.

Former Sheffield Wednesday youth player Nick Wood is also available to slot in, as is versatile defender Tim Cathalina.

The news could come as a blessing to Goodison, who turns 38 this year, as he has battled through a number of injuries to take part in some of the Whites recent matches.

Having a two-week rest will mean the veteran will hopefully be coming back fully-fit for the home game against Brentford on the 16th of October.
