Fullback Danny Holmes has said he’s really been enjoying our return to training and he was obviously delighted to get some match time in recent friendlies as it does help break up the really hard work the players have been doing in training.

No doubt it also helps to remind them of exactly why they are sweating and running that much in the first place.

Speaking to the Official Site having now got 45 minutes under his belt in each of our opening friendlies against Cammell Laird and Vauxhall Motors, the player explained.

‘We have had a tough couple of weeks training but we are raring to go and we just want the season to start now. You want to get the boots back on and get our there and play. Training has been brilliant, we have had the ball out from the first day and we’ve done some running, but it’s not been like it was in the old days so it’s all good!’

Holmes admits that with pre season friendlies now ticking through, and with the fixtures long out it seems, the players are really relishing the start of the campaign properly and they’ve enjoyed the tests that they have faced in the friendlies so far, and he can’t wait for the games we have lined up against Everton and Bolton because he knows they’ll really be a step up in terms of a challenge and the aim will be to come through them and then take that into our League Two campaign.
