Assistant manager John McMahon has admitted he has a number of injury concerns ahead of our game with Swindon Town tomorrow night, but he has still allowed Evan Horwood to leave us on loan.

Starting with the injury problems we have, he says we have doubts over Jason Koumas and Stephen Arthurworrey.

Koumas apparently needed pain killing injections in order to play in the game against Port Vale last weekend, and Arthurworrey had to be replaced 15 odd minutes from time with an injury himself.

He’s also unsure if he can welcome back Danny Holmes and Steve Jennings for the midweek game, as they both missed Port Vale equally with injury.

As for the latter two though they were due to undergo assessments late this afternoon, so hopefully their will be positive news for them in the morning.

Therefore the decision to let Evan Horwood join Northampton Town on loan until the end of the season may be viewed as strange by some.

The 28 year old joined us in the summer as a free agent after leaving Hartlepool and has gone on to make 22 appearances for us so far, but hasn’t featured for the first team since last January and the game against Rotherham United.

With a nod to the fact that he needs to be playing games and his chances have been limited both through other options and also form issues, McMahon believes it’s in the interests of all parties to get him out and on the pitch again.

Of course, it’s also a saving in the wage budget as we near the loan deadline and McMahon doesn’t rule out the fact he has let one go, in order to bring somebody else in.
