Manager Rob Edwards has made Marc Laird his sixth signing of the summer so far.

The midfielder joins us on a one year deal, and began his career in Manchester City’s youth system before he moved on to Millwall, Leyton Orient and most recently Southend United two years ago.

In almost 200 career appearances so far, he has scored 14 goals and the 28 year old has joined us in time for his registration to go through for him to be in contention for our opening friendly of the summer.

He was actually training with the lads this last week, so he already knows everybody and he impressed the gaffer enough for him to be offered a deal.

Speaking to the Official Site as the deal was announced, Edwards said.

‘I’m really pleased Marc has agreed to joins us. He’s shown his commitment to the club by coming in and training with us for a week. He’s got a great attitude and someone who will add fantastic fitness levels and know how to our midfield. He’ll really complement the other players we’ve got in that department.’

Laird himself said of the move.

‘I’m delighted. I’ve been here training since last Thursday and I’ve enjoyed it. The lads have all made me feel really welcome and I’m glad I’ve joined.’

Laird goes on to say that Tranmere are a massive club in League Two and having spoken to the gaffer about how he wants us to play, he feels that his style will really suit the club moving forward now.

‘You’ve got to aim high. We want to get Tranmere back into the league above and push on from there. We’ll make sure we’re ready to go at the start of the season.’
