Manager Micky Adams has bemoaned more away day disappointment following the two nil loss to Cheltenham Town at the weekend.

Speaking to the Official Site following the match, a disappointed Adams explained.

‘Another disappointing away day. We started poorly and didn’t get anywhere near them for the first 20 minutes which is unbelievable really. I think they knew the importance of the game but we got exactly what we deserved which is nothing. We’ve got to pick ourselves up and move on again.’

Adams goes on to say that simply put they ‘wanted it more’ than we did which is probably his biggest disappointment following the game, and whilst we ‘weren’t good enough’ he also felt we were playing the game as individuals – there wasn’t enough of a team spirit or ethic again.

‘We’ve got to stop playing as individuals. We know we’ve got some decent players but we’ve got to gel them together. At this moment in time we’re a long way from that. We looked a team against Shrewsbury and looked a team at Portsmouth for 75 minutes. But we’ve disappointed ourselves here today.’

He continues to say that ultimately games like these usually hinge on the first goal and we couldn’t get, and when they did they got a massive lift obviously and our heads dropped a bit. He does appreciate however that constant first team changes with injuries aren’t helping our cause because it is affecting continuity and we need to get a fit and settled side out there to give us the best chance possible.

But once the second strike went in, it was game over and again he felt it was avoidable.

‘The second goal kills us. Kayode Odejayi is miles away from his man and you can’t allow people to be free in the box. We’ve got two games now Tuesday and Saturday and if we pick up six points the atmosphere and points tally will look a lot healthier. When I came into the Club I knew what it was going to be like. There was no easy fix or easy solution. I’ve tried my best to improve it but players need time.’

Time is something Tranmere don’t have with the games dwindling down quickly.
