Manager Micky Adams has said we lost the Northampton game by the narrowest of margins as we went down one nil at Sixfields on Saturday.

A second half header from them was all that separated the teams and speaking to the Official Site the gaffer knew we should’ve taken a point from the match but again a moment of poor defending has cost us.

‘We should do better defending it, we didn’t and got punished and that was the difference between the two teams, one free kick. I thought we defended better, we were more resolute and had a better shape in terms of the back four. Liam Ridehalgh came in and did well and allowed us to push Rob Taylor further forward into his preferred position. We are not worse off than we were at the start of the game, that’s the good thing. I’ve seen signs there today which have encouraged me.’

Goalkeeper Owain fon Williams was also interviewed after the game and he gave his thoughts on another loss.

‘We knew it was going to be a difficult game coming here because they’re doing well and are pushing for a place in the play-offs. I was quite busy but that’s to be expected playing away from home and we were trying to get something out of the game because we wanted to win the game.’

The 27 year old says there’s nothing we can do about the games that have slipped by us this season though, so the players have to dust themselves down and focus on the remaining ten matches that we have to play, because that’s 30 points to fight for and there is still time for us to push up the table and end the season on a high.

Starting with the game on Tuesday evening against Cambridge hopefully.

‘We’ve got a game on Tuesday night and we have to look at that in a positive frame of mind in that we can get out there again and try to get it right because we need to get it right on Tuesday, it’ll be a big game. The positive thing from today is that no teams have pulled away from us so Tuesday night gives us the opportunity to pull out of the relegation zone.’

He ends by saying that he feels we just need that one win to kickstart us and confidence properly, because we need to give ourselves that base to build from.
