Tranmere Rovers have today appointed Alex Russell as our new first team coach.

The 41 year old hung up his playing boots back in 2013 after a 24 year long career, playing for teams like Rochdale, Cambridge United, Torquay United, Bristol City, Cheltenham Town and Exeter City.

In 2012 he was named U21 coach at Bristol City having previously worked in their Academy and speaking to the Official Site manager Rob Edwards said of his appointment.

‘Alex is a young, up and coming coach who will help me develop the players at Tranmere, particularly the younger ones. I’ve played with him and seen how good an understanding of the game he has. I’ve also coached Alex and really liked the input he gave me and the calming influence he had on the dressing room.’

Edwards goes on to say that he knows the game inside and out and he can’t wait to start working with him now.

He joined up with the team for the first time today.
