Shaun Garrett has said he had no hesitation when he was asked to step up to first duties to help out Alan Rogers, our new caretaker manager.

A statement from the club about Micky Adams read.

‘Micky Adams has left his position as manager of Tranmere Rovers by mutual consent. Assistant Manager Alan Rogers and Academy Manager Shaun Garnett will take temporary charge of first team affairs.
We thank Micky for his work at Tranmere Rovers having taken over the Club at a difficult time and wish him all the best for the future.
The focus of the first team and everybody at the Club is now on the fight to the finish with a game at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday 25th April when three points could lift them above both Hartlepool United and Cheltenham Town.’

In an interview with Garrett the Official Site have him quoted about his thoughts at stepping up to the first team job, and his hopes for the remainder of the season now.

‘It’s not about me or Alan, it’s about the club. It’s a massive club with a lot of history and I was here in 1987 and thought then that it would never happen again. But we’re back in a similar position. The fans can play a massive part in it, they can be like the 12th man. I know in 87 they played a massive part but we know we’ll get their backing.’

Garrett went on to say that nobody underestimated how difficult this weekend will be for us against Plymouth Argyle but it’s the challenge we face and we have to stand up to it.

‘We know how important Saturday is, we’ve got to look forward and not back and we’re focusing on the job in hand and that would be to get a result at Plymouth. We’re going to Plymouth with one focus and that’s to come away still with a fighting chance. We’ll pick a team that we think can get something from the game.’

He ends by saying that in both remaining games now it’s an opportunity for somebody to make themselves truly loved by the crowd.

‘There’s an opportunity on Saturday for someone to make a name for themselves and that’s what Alan and I will be saying to the boys, ‘go and be a hero’ because someone can do it.’
