Assistant manager John McMahon has said that the decision by the referee in last night’s game against Crawley Town to postpone the encounter over player safety was the right choice, even though it was desperately frustrating.

Speaking to the Official Site following the announcement, he explained that it was the only sensible choice on the night when you looked at, and walked on the pitch and at the end of the day it was the referee’s decision and there’s nothing Tranmere can do about it, even if they disagreed with the assessment.

‘They’re desperate to get the game on and it’s just unfortunately we’re so far away. I think there are four or five poor areas. The groundsman to his credit has worked on them but there was no way we could play on that.’

McMahon says trying to get the game on just would’ve been dangerous and it wouldn’t have been the right thing to have put the players of wither side at that risk, but he appreciates it would’ve been annoying for our ‘fantastic’ travelling away support.

Crawley will now be speaking to the club about rearranging the fixture but also in terms of compensation for those fans who did travel.
