Coach Alan Rogers has given an injury update ahead of the game this weekend against Wimbledon, talked about the game a little and two other bits of Tranmere news.

In terms of an injury update following Burton, he told the Official Site.

‘Possibly Rob Taylor may be back. Danny Gardner has had a scan at Chesterfield and we get the results of that today. After the Cambridge game, he (Gardner) came in with a bit of swelling on his knee and when he tried to train on Friday he said he felt his knee was weak, so he’s been back to Chesterfield to have a scan and we get the results of that today.’

He also explained that Josh Thompson needed another scan before returning to training having had two concussions in a short period of time, but there were no real issues, it was just rest and recovery for him until then and he’s passed fit.

Speaking about the upcoming game, he also said the camp remained upbeat despite the loss to Burton because they know there were positives and that the scoreline is misleading.

‘We’ve watched the game back twice and we can understand the fans’ frustration, it’s another home loss, but when we watch the game back it’s certainly not a game we should have lost 4-1. We’ve got to be switched on at all times. Against a top team like Burton, you’re going to get punished. You can’t fault the work ethic and team spirit. I thought the difference on the day was that we had good chances and didn’t take them, they had chances and they were clinical.’

And for Wimbledon.

‘It’s another game where we need to go and win. We know the importance of the game, we’ve got to start picking up points. We have to concentrate on what we do and get a few wins on the board. If we get a win on Saturday, it looks a bit rosier. If we have the work ethic that we’ve had in the last few games we’ll be ok.’

As for a quick news round up of the last few days, Aston Villa’s young defender Janoi Donacien has now extended his time with us until the end of the season.

Owain fon Williams finds himself in the Welsh set up again for this month’s international break for their European Qualifier against Israel on Saturday March 28.
