Coach Alan Rogers has been in front of the cameras ahead of Tuesday evening’s game against Cambridge United.

Speaking to the Official Site following the loss to Northampton at the weekend, Rogers called on the team to take the work ethic that they are showing on the training pitch into games because he’s more than confident that the quality does exist within the camp to get the results we need over the coming ten games to avoid the drop.

‘It’s an amazing thing confidence. As a player, I’ve been at the top when you’re flying and everything is coming off and I’ve been at the other end when you’re lacking confidence and you start thinking about things too much instead of doing what’s instinctive to you, but we’ll keep working at it. We just want to get a win. A win can take you up two or three places and will hopefully get a bit of confidence in the boys.’

Rogers goes on to say that you look at the players we have and they are all proven, but it’s just not falling for us and that’s what confidence and struggling does unfortunately in the game, so the players just have to keep working hard and take into games what they are working on and it will fall for us.

Cambridge won’t be easy though, and even though he describes them as being a bit ‘hit and miss’ since their Cup game against Manchester United, the fact they hit a late injury time leveller in their game at the weekend shows him that they are a team who keep fighting and they certainly won’t make it easy for us.

‘It’s going to be a battle so we’re going to have to roll our sleeves up, dig in, which we will do, and we’ll have a right go.’

As for team news, well on loan Sheffield United defender Harrison McGahey has now been called back by his parent club owing to defensive injuries they have – no surprise as manager Nigel Clough was talking about it the other day for when the 28 recall clause kicked in as it did at the weekend, so he’s out of contention.

‘Rob Taylor has a bit of a hamstring strain so he won’t be travelling and Danny Holmes is struggling a bit with an injury behind his knee. He’s had a bit of a niggle for the past week and it’s flared up a bit overnight so Danny might be a doubt.’
