It was misery at Millmoor for Rovers once again, as the Whites slumped to only their second league defeat of the season.

The injured Jason McAteer was replaced on the bench by Congolese Striker Calvin Zola. Apart from that, Rovers were unchanged from Friday night’s win over Bristol City.

Rotherham’s win came courtesy of two goals that were down to poor defending as much as anything.

Miller’s former Mansfield winger Lee Williamson gave the home side the lead as he unleashed a fierce effort from the left that Gavin Ward couldn’t get to.

Rovers equalised midway through the first half. A long ball from John Mullin was nodded down by Gareth Taylor. Chris Greenacre picked the ball up and fed Kevin Ellison who struck home from the edge of the area with his right foot for his second goal of the season.

Rotherham got their winner before the first half finished. Young Striker Will Hoskins was given too much time on the ball and he slipped in a low shot past Ward after cutting in from the wing.

Rovers had a few half chances but rarely troubled Neil Cutler in the Millers’ goal.

Zola replaced Greenacre midway through the second half but failed to a ignite a poor Rovers performance and they failed to equalise before full-time.

Luckily for the Whites they haven’t lost any ground on Forest at the top as they fell to a 2-0 home defeat to Oldham. Saying that, every point is vital and this performance could be rued at the end of the term, you just don’t know.

One niggling worry is the amount of protection the full backs are getting from the wingers, particularly on the Rovers left flank. Whilst fans will no doubt be happy with Kev Ellison getting on the scoresheet, he didn’t really help out Shane enough at left back. He’s a huge, intimidating fellow so perhaps a few more tackles and a bit more closing down from him on that flank would make a big difference.

Rovers will be looking to bounce back from this disapointing performance as they travel to the Sixfields Stadium on Saturday to face Northamtpon Town.
