A young Tranmere side went down 1-0 to Macclesfield at Moss Rose.

Having played a friendly against Liverpool the night before, many players were rested by manager John Barnes although Ash Taylor played and captained the side.

New singing Shaelum Logan started at right back and played the full 90 minutes as he looked to stake a claim for a place in the starting XI at Yeovil in two weeks’ time.

There was also a shock inclusion for assistant manager Jason McAteer in midfield. He played the first half and was replaced by Jay Ashcroft at half-time.

Tranmere fell behind after only 12 minutes with Hamza Bencherif scoring the goal for the hosts.

Rovers almost conceded again but the shot hit the post and was eventually dealt with by the defence.

Youngster Max Power almost brought the visitors level but his shot went narrowly wide as Tranmere started to create chances.

More youngsters were given a chance to shine in the second half but none could get a stranglehold on the game which meant Tranmere lost the game.
