Vital Tranmere understands that Tranmere chairman Peter Johnson has approached Rochdale manager Kieth Hill about the possibility of replacing John Barnes as Rovers boss.

Hill, who is currently manager of League Two promotion chasers Rochdale has been strongly linked with the vacancy for the past week and it looks like Rovers are also willing to pay compensation to Rochdale to secure his services.

However despite the prospect of managing a team a League higher, it looks very unlikely that Hill will take the Job at Prenton Park as he released a statement via the local press in Rochdale stating he is not interested in the post.

Newspapers such as the Daily Mirror are stating Hill has emerged the leading candidate for the job.
