Manager Micky Adams was again frustrated with the way we started in the two one defeat to Wycombe Wanderers last night, but as the game went on he did feel we grew into it, improved and started to compete properly.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the annoyed gaffer explained.

‘I’m disappointed with the way we started. I thought in the first fifteen, twenty minutes we were very apprehensive and once they’d got the penalty – which was a bit harsh – we came out of our shell. We got them on the back foot, go some decent balls in the box and got our goal. Then we looked to be in the ascendancy but one clearance and we’ve not dealt with it. We can’t keep giving teams starts like we’re giving them. We’re chasing another game.’

Adams goes on to say that in many ways really, Wycombe saw the game out perfectly and showed us what we should’ve done in the game against Portsmouth.

‘Ten men, they silenced the crowd and we gave away too many cheap free kicks. But we still had chances, we had one cleared off the line and Danny Gardner had a shot saved. I have to say, if he’s given the penalty as he has done, there was a definite handball so that could have easily gone our way as well.’

Adams has to admit though that feeling hard done by when it came to a point is pointless because ‘it’s another defeat’ and that’s all that counts.

‘We’ve got 12 to go and it’s going to go right down to the wire I’m afraid and we’ve just got to pick ourselves up and move on. We all expect better. My chairman expects better, the fans expect better and I can promise them I’m going to be fighting until the end. It’s a tough situation at this moment in time and what it needs is for somebody to be brave and stand there and I’m going to be that man. I’m going to battle to save this football club.’

With the upcoming game against Dagenham and Redbridge at the weekend, the gaffer also commented that he was hopeful he’d be able to welcome back Rory Donnelly, Rob Taylor and Jennison Myrie-Williams to contention for the match.
