Celebrities and football stars heading to Prenton Park.

Former Rovers and Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer has arranged a trio of charity games on Merseyside which will see football star`s and celebrities play a game of football on Anfield, Goodison Park and Prenton Park.

The first match will be played at Everton FC on Saturday 23rd May and the other dates for Anfield and Prenton Park are yet to be confirmed. However Prenton Park seems to be the next destination were the stars will be heading with Anfield set to host the final in 2010.

McAteer said:

‘We only got the go-ahead for the game on Tuesday but we have been going through Macca’s (Steve McManaman) little black book ever since. We have spoken to showbiz stars like Gordon Ramsay, Tim Lovejoy and Chris Evans, while Westlife stars Nicky Byrne and Shane Filan have already confirmed their participation in the first match.’

‘The concept of the game is to get the three clubs uniting together in a common cause. Four legends from each of the three clubs will form a Merseyside team, against a European All Stars team. The event will be an entertainment showpiece as well as a football match.’

McAteer who featured 81 times for Rovers scored 4 goals during his time at Tranmere has confirmed that Westlife stars Shane Filan and Nicky Bryne are set to play in one of the charity games.

McAteer in 2004 arranged a charity football game at Anfield in order to raise money for the Tsunami disaster in Asia.

Co-organiser Dave Lockwood is hoping the event can raise over $1m over the three games after last time he managed to raise $550,000 in the Tsunami match. He told the media…

‘We raised in excess of $550,000 last time. It is dangerous to set numbers, but I think we would hope to raise $1m over three games this time.’

Finally Chairwomen Lorraine Rodgers said she was “delighted” to see Tranmere take part in the event and is “welcoming” the teams to Prenton Park.
