Disappointment For Mac

On Friday, the Tranmere Rovers official website had an unusual day, it was crammed with news. And with this news came the fact that former club captain, Jason McAteer, would be released by club.

Macca was currently in a player/coach role for the club, and he definitely felt he still had plenty to offer, and was somewhat dismayed about being cast aside by the Rovers. Talking to Sky Sports news the former Liverpool and Bolton man had this to say:

‘I was a player-coach, but there was nothing on the table, there was talk I turned down a contract, but the truth be known I was not offered anything at Tranmere in any role.

‘I found that a bit disappointing but the club is moving in a direction it wants to go in and Ronnie does not see me as a part of that and you have got to take it on the chin and move on.’

And on his future, McAteer knows what he wants, but also accepts the likelihood of this offer coming in at a short time. He continued:

‘I am going to take some time and relax and see what comes my way over the next couple of months,’

‘Player-manager would be ideal somewhere, but those jobs are not easy to find.

‘I will keep my options open. I have got a few offers on the table from clubs to come and play and I have a few offers from outside football, so I am sure my time will be busy.’
