According to the Manchester Evening News Manchester United are top of the list above a number of clubs in contention for Ryan Taylors position in their team.

Wigan Athletic beat off fierce competition from Everton and Norwich to purchase Ryan Taylor. On 13th July 2005 Taylor was eventually signed at a fee of £750 000+ based on appearances. He signed a contract which intended him to stay at the JJB Stadium untill 2009.

After his move to Wigan, Taylor was plagued with injuries breaking his leg in a reserve match with Newcastle United, then finally breaking his 5th metatarsal in a F.A. Cup clash with Leeds United. Taylor however returned from injury to face the team where he originally broke his leg. He went on to score a fantastic goal from one of his specialist freekicks to beat Shay Given.
