Kay has captained the side all season and has scored an impressive 12 goals from midfield, not bad for a former centre back. Fans of Rovers will be delighted to see Kay win the award as he is a player who gives 100% each game and has scored some vital goals against Leeds, Brighton and most recently Yeovil Town. However Kay did have strong competitors as he had to compete with the likes of Ben Chorley, Steve Jennings,Ian Moore and Ian Goodison for the award.

Young player of the season was awarded to Charlie Barnett, Barnett signed for Rovers earlier on in the season after impressing on trial and has performed exceptionally well on the wing this season and is a player who keeps developing after every game, Barnett will be remembered fondly by Rovers fans after scoring a beautiful volley against rivals Oldham to see Tranmere win 2-0 at Boundary Park.

The goal of the season award went to on loan defender Ryan Shotton for his amazing goal against Colchester United at home this season where Rovers were beaten 3-2. Shotton won the award ahead of Ian Moore’s strike against Leeds,Scunthorpe and Carlisle and Bas Savage’s goal at home to Huddersfield Town recently.

The final two awards were Players’ Young Player of the Season which was given to Aaron Cresswell and Steven Jennings picked up the Player’s Player of the season trophy.

Agreed about Kay. He’s easily been our best player this season but I’m a little disappointed not to see some recognition going the way of Ben Chorley, who has been immense for us at the back this season. By far his best year at Prenton Park.

Good to see Barnett get something too, he’s come on leaps and bounds in the last 4 months and he is one of the players we HAVE to get tied down on a good deal.

Crewsswell has impressed me when deputising for Andy Taylor this year. Definately one for the future.

Jenno’s had a good year too in the centre of midfield and is another player we need to tie down on a new contract.

Sorry to be a pedant but the Colchester game was 3-4, not 2-3 as stated!
