Moore About The Defence

Yup it’s defensive issues for Ronnie Moore again following our 4-3 defeat to Brentford.

Following the five nil thumping by Peterborough a few games ago, Tranmere seemed to have sorted out our defensive frailties with back to back clean sheets but that all came back to bite us against Brentford as we conceded two goals early on in the first half, then another two in the second half with their winner coming from a penalty in injury time.

Speaking to the Official Site the gaffer was again left to focus on our defensive frailties following all the hard work we did to get ourselves back into a position to maybe take something from the game.

‘We’re disappointed, you can’t defend the way we’ve defended. We have a couple of clean sheet and you think everything is rosy and then we’re two down in 12 odd minutes. We’re two nil down, get ourselves back into the game and then I thought there was only one team going to win it.’

Moore admits he doesn’t know if it was a penalty or not, but it felt very harsh to him especially after all the hard work we’d put into the game, but he wasn’t looking to blame the referee because ultimately if we defend like that you’d be amazed if we got something out of it.

Despite being able to call on Andy Robinson for the first time in the last two weeks as he came on as a substitute, even he ended the game having picked up a knock again on his knee so it’s a case of waiting and seeing how he responds, but in better news Jason Koumas did train on Friday so he shouldn’t be too far off making a return to first team action.

Wallace is also off to see the specialist with swelling on his knee, so more clarity on his position should be available by Thursday Moore thinks.

On loan fullback Andrai Jones will also be returning to Barnsley following his month’s spell at the club, with Moore explaining that as he’s an attacking player, what Tranmere really need at the moment is somebody more defensive minded to help shore up the backline.
