Players Respond To Brentford Upset

Cole Stockton and James Rowe have both given their thoughts following the 4-3 defeat by Brentford last weekend.

Up first talking to the Official Site was goalscorer Stockton who can feel very hard done by after meeting Max Power’s cross and firing the ball into the net in injury time and celebrating with the belief that he’d just helped us to an unlikely point in the match, but ultimately it counted for nothing in the end.

‘I’m gutted. We’d done so well to pull it back, it showed great team spirit. Heads are down but that’s what you expect. I was made up to score the goal – I knew I’d get a chance when I came on, so I’m pleased to have taken it.’

Stockton adds he knew he was due a different type of goal now and his movement was good, and Power’s cross was sublime so it became a simple tap in for him ultimately.

However the late handball by Adam Dugdale, which you can always argue is at that range was it really an awardable penalty, put paid to his efforts as we went on to concede the game, but Dugdale did admit that it did touch his arm, but there was little he could do about it.

What matters for Stockton now is that we take the form we showed to fightback in the game into the match against Notts County, but start with that level of performance and cut out the errors as if we can click like that up front but keep it tight at the back we’ve got a very good chance of coming out with all three points.

Midfielder James Rowe was also full of praise for the character of the players as they fought back from so many goals behind, but couldn’t dismiss the fact our defending was dire and simply not good enough.

‘It was hard to take, we started off sloppy and I think the boys showed good character to come back but the penalty has killed us. It was four sloppy goals we conceded and we had chances to win the game.’

It’s also on to County for him now, as he agrees we are playing well enough in the main to be picking up points but sloppy errors at the back are continually costing us this season and it’s gone on long enough now that improvements should be able to be seen.
