Tranmere Rovers have today extended the loan deal of West Brom’s striker Lateef Elford-Alliyu by another month and signed experienced goalkeeper Tony Warner on loan until the end of the season. Another loanee has arrived, Michael Kay from Sunderland for a month and centre back Mark McChrystal joins on a 6 month deal from Derry City for free.

There is reason for Rovers fans to be pleased with all of the signings – Lateef Elford-Alliyu has looked promising of late having been given a run of games by Les Parry. It’s good to see that the missed penalty against Huddersfield in the JPT hasn’t effected him as much as some people thought it would do with him being a young lad.

The fans will no doubt be delighted to have brought in a goalkeeper in who has the wealth of experience that 36 year-old Tony Warner has. Our oldest goalkeeper other than him is Joe Collister, who is 19, so it’s good to have an old head about to pass on advice to the younger goalkeepers as well as being a good goalkeeper himself!

As suggested by the rumour mill, we were after Sunderland’s reserve team captain Michael Kay on loan and today we’ve got him in for a month to fill the vacant right-back spot. Having heard a lot of very promising things about him the Super White Army will be hoping he can live up to expectations!

Mark McChrystal’s move has been in the pipeline for some time but due to the transfer window he’s only signed today. He’s experienced and will add quality to a shaky defence. If he does well during his short stint at Prenton Mark he may well be offered a new contract come the summer.
