The Rumour Mill

Over the past week we have been strongly linked with a few new faces. Two from walsall, Michael Dobson (RB) and Edrissa Sonko (CAM). Another CAM that Ronnie has ben touted as following is George O’Callaghan.

Finally there appears to be some movement in the transfer window, but not to the extent many would have liked. It appears we are being priced out of many signings by other league one clubs. Times are apparently hard at the moment. I for one am not overjoyed at the prospect of Dobson replacing Stockdale. However pulling off the signing of O’Callahan may go someway to making up for the departure of McLaren, however with many players to replace at the Rovers this summer, and a lack of quality names being banded around, next season could be nail biting for the wrong reasons.

You’re coming round to my way of thinking – I’m sorry to say. The level of spending by some clubs I would regard as our equivalent or even inferior is staggering. Dare I say it but there are clubs gambling with their futures apparently looking merely to stay in League 1. Having said that, there are clubs such as Stockport and Cheltenham who have made big money sales and are spending that cash – but are their replacements value for money and will they cover for the lost talent? Only the next 9 months will tell. I fear you are correct. The division is becoming a big spending division. Maybe Ronnie should be looking to make loan signings. How good are his contacts? We’ll soon find out.

Stockport have not to date splashed out much and WILL NOT be breaking any banks. We have our ground to buy back. Let those that spend do so and we will all see the shake out form this in 12 months time. Keep it tight Tranmere!

I wasn’t suggesting Stockport are taking risks. You can afford to splash out a bit but spend it wisely. I think we agree that the art of management is not simply about spending money on average players. ChampMan has a lot to answer for! It would be interesting to see how clubs’ spending is reflected in their performance over the next season. Perhaps someone statistically-minded could come up with a spending/performance quotient.
