The Season So Far

After a positive pre-season campaign which was rounded off with a win over Championship stayers Blackpool, Tranmere fans when into the away trip and season opener at Swindon Town with some degree of confidence. How short lived that confidence was though. After just four minutes of their League One campaign, Tranmere Rovers found themselves one goal down. The tale of the game didn’t really alter. Swindon remained on top through out the match and Tranmere could only find a late consolation goal when all was lost.

So, what better way to rebound from a defeat in the league than to face lower league opposition in the Carling Cup. Surely this would be a comfortable win for Tranmere. Wouldn’t it? Unfortunately football matches aren’t won by hitting the wood work and Tranmere lost by two goals to nil.

So, three days into the campaign and we are out of the only cup competition we have entered (so far) and are lurking one from bottom in the league.

For some reason Hartlepool at home looks like a much harder game now than it did a week earlier. True to his form though, Craig Curran comes up trumps with a stunning strike from out side of the box to round off a well worked move. He also has the ball in the net for a second time but the assistant referee was of the opinion that young Curran was lurking offside. The match ended 1-0 so at least we have a win to our name in this campaign and a 100% win record at home.

A mixed start for Rovers but I am sure everyone is of the opinion that these past two weeks should have been a little more fruitful than they have been.

Anyway, at least we only have to play Leicester away on Saturday!!
