Tranmere only named six substitutes in Tuesday`s 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers and have opted to use the emergency loan system to bring in Wootton with regular defenders in short supply.

The 19-year-old could make his debut at Prenton Park in Saturday`s match against Brighton & Hove Albion with the likes of Marlon Broome and Ash Taylor absent through injured.

Wootton should feel right at home with the Whites as he was born in Birkenhead and played in Tranmere`s Centre of Excellence before he was bought by Liverpool at the age of 13.

He moved to United three years ago and has since cemented himself in the reserves and captained the under-18 squad last season.

Manager Les Parry spoke to the club`s official website about the signing: “I’m pleased to be able to bring Scott to the Club.

I`d like to thank Manchester United for allowing him to come to us for a month.”
