This morning the Offical Tranmere Rovers website offered some respectful background information surrounding the release of John Achterberg, which has caused Tranmere fans to direct negative feedback towards the club’s professionalism concerning the release of a legend.

The website confirmed…

‘The Club matched all of John’s initial demands but he added further demands and the Club reached the limit it was prepared to go.’

The club later went on to explain…

‘The Club offered John a new two year contract as a player and also a two year contract as a coach. The Club discussed the option of a testimonial and gave John the option of joining in pre season at the club with or without a new contract having been agreed in the hope that he would be fit by the start of the new season. However, John made further demands and approached other clubs with the view to creating an auction for his services.’

VITAL Tranmere would like to indicate that on the 25th of May John Achterberg released a statement on his official site
http://www.johnachterberg.com/ saying:

‘The leaving has come very quickly and I am saddened that I cannot say Goodbye to all the fans and people who have supported me over the 9 great years I have spent here.’

VITAL TRFC believe that the Club are not being entirely truthful about matters concerning the testimonial match for Achterberg. John has clearly stressed he is saddened he could not say goodbye to the fans, and we believe that John Achterberg would not pass down an opportunity to say goodbye to fans in some form of a testimonial. It seems after the news that Jason McAteer’s release wasnt at mutual terms after he explained to Sky Sports, that the news of his release had come as a shock to him.

The Club finished by saying:

‘John has made a massive contribution to the Club over the last nine years and everyone at the Club wishes him well for the future but the Club cannot be forced into unreasonable bidding war for the services of any player. Unfortunately the way in which financial negotiations take place in football means there is little room for emotion.’

Guys thats why sites like Vital Tranmere exist, cos clubs dont tell the fans the whole truth. By the way as a terrier hope Ahmed does it for you, he lost his way with us. If your ed needs info on him contact our ed.

absolute bull####! achto would never turn down the chance of a testimonial. he loves us and we love him. the club is an absolute disgrace, acting like a petty child in getting the last petty shot in, giving achto no chance to redeem himself. the sad thing is, some of the more gullible fans will believe this story and have a tarnished view of him in the future. the man is a LEDGEND!

I dont think it is a disgrace at all. we dont actually know what went on and we are all guessing. O.K some of the guesses my be educated but I doubt that much of it is absolute truth. I think that there was a brwak down in communication because fo an agent getting in the way or something. I am not saying the club is blameless but I will always support the club over a player. Even a player who is my favourite like Achterberg.

Its a real shame that stupid rumours can turn into Chinese Whisper type situations, still everyone starts speculating on what they think has happened. Until/If we ever know the truth, lets judge the situation then. He is a great player and i agree that it was Prob a break down in communication
