Taylor loved here at Tranmere made 98 appearances scoring 14 goals under Brian Little. After leaving Rovers in 2006 he then joined Wigan Athletic were he had a tough start at the JJB due to injuries he broke his 5th metatarsal playing in an FA Cup game for Wigan against Leeds, then just when he returned from his metatarsal injury another injury crisis occurred he then broke his leg in an reserve clash v Newcastle.

Taylor admired by the Wigan fans for his set pieces scored 6 goals during his time v the Latics 4 of them ironically coming against Newcastle.

However Taylor spoke to the Wigan Athletic official club website showing his appreciation for all the support he received.

He said: ‘I want to thank Wigan for the way they stuck by me in dark times when I was injured, especially Alex Cribley, Dave Galley, Dave Hallam, and before him, Alan Tomlinson. It is down to them that I am still playing today, both for their medical expertise and their humanity. It’s something I’ll never forget.

‘I also want to say thanks to the Wigan supporters who have always been behind me. I hope they understand that I feel it’s time for a fresh challenge. I haven’t had the best of luck here injury wise and 50 games in three and a half seasons tells its story.

‘I feel I want to make up for lost time, and try and specialise in one position. I have to think about what’s best for me but I will always wish the club well because it’s been a big part of my life and I’ve made a lot of friends there.’

Meanwhile Wigan boss Steve Bruce wished the youngster all the best saying:

‘It was one of those decisions that was quite easy to make really in the circumstances. Newcastle have made him a fantastic offer and I know he has been angling to try and play in his preferred position on the right side, which we haven’t been able to do very regularly.

‘He is a superb striker of the ball and it is ironic how this game works sometimes. All that pain he has inflicted on Newcastle in the past has probably bought him a move there. He was always totally professional here and I wish him all the best in his new career.’

Finally Joe Kinnear was ‘over the moon` to secure the services of Taylor:

He told Newcastle`s official club website:

‘I’m over the moon to get Ryan because he is still a young player but one with a lot of experience.

‘He’s played nearly 200 career games and is still only 24

‘His versatility is tremendous, he can play on the left or the right and in defence or midfield.

‘He’s a total footballer in that he’s got two good feet and is very good on the ball which I like very much.

‘He’s another Scouse lad like Kevin Nolan with a great character and we’re very happy to get him on board.’

Vital Tranmere
would like to congratulate and wish all the best for the future to Ryan.
