At Ronnie Moore`s regular Monday press conference the Rovers manager said he hopes its “third time lucky” and that Rovers can finally go top of the league with a win over Port Vale at Prenton Park this Friday night.

Speaking to the official site he said “We`ve got the chance to go top, albeit for 24 hours. The last two opportunities we haven`t taken, so I`m hoping its third time lucky”

Moore says he is looking forward to the second of six Friday night games to be hosted at Prenton Park, whilst also airing on the side of caution, warning that our Burslem opponents will be no pushover.

“It`s a Friday night game and we know what they`re like here. But if anyone thinks its going to be a walkover because they lost to Rotherham then there`s going to be a rude awakening. There only a few points behind us, so we need to put a few points between us and them”

Ronnie also confirmed he is still in the hunt for a loan striker but is admitting it will be tough to find a suitable man.

“Alot of clubs aren`t going to let too many experienced players out. Gareth Taylor is going to be out for three weeks, Calvin Zola will be at least a fortnight with his foot injury, leaving us with only Chris Greenacre & Steve Davies”

Moore says that clubs want guarantees that you`ll play their loaned player in every game that you have them, which is fair enough as the club your loaning the player from obviously want something out of the bargain. Moore however says it would be hard to do this as it would be unfair on Steve Davies.

“The problem is that if you take a kid from Manchester United, Liverpool or Everton, they`ve got to come and play in your first team. They will let players come but insist they play. Is that fair on Davies? He did will with his commitment at Swansea.

Rovers take on Port Vale this Friday, 13 October, 7:45pm

it will be good if you can do it to keep up the pressure on the top teams … Think you may well make that step this season myself !

We don’t usually trouble you at Prenton Park, but who know’s? results are not going to form in our league. I think we might grind out a draw. Hopefully, as this is an opportunity for you to go top, some of your players might bottle it!

Please don’t mention the phrase ‘bottle it’, it scares me!
Are you the Vale ed’, if so have you got the email I sent?
