Tranmere, today revealed that enquiries had been made about the possibility of playing five premiership teams in a friendly matches to be played prior to the start of Next Season, according to the BBC. Merseyside big boys Liverpool and Everton have been contacted along with newly promoted Stoke City, almost certain relegation survivors, Bolton Wanderers, and current media favourites, Man City.

Everton used to be a familiar pre-season fixture until one fateful January day that Tranmere beat them in the FA Cup 3-0 thanks to Yates and Koumas. Maybe they feel they can finally put the embarrassment of that fixture behind them. Our last encounter with Liverpool was again in the FA Cup, when Tranmere were narrowly beaten in the last eight of the competition.

Manchester City humiliated the Rovers last time around with a 7-1 friendly victory. A familiar face was Man of the Match that day. Chris Shuker bagged himself a hat-trick playing in his youth team position of centre forward. Stoke wouldn’t have been anyones favourites to go up if they had witnessed the defeat to Tranmere during last years pre-season friendlies, with the Super Whites thoroughly deserving their 2-1 victory.

Finally, our one time rivals, and still sworn enemies, Bolton. Many a tussle occurred between the two sides during the mid 90’s with both team fighting regularly for promotion to the premiership. However, the last time the two sides bet was in a double header in the League Cup semi-final. Rovers were victorious my a comfortable 4-0 score line over the two legs…..my how the two sides fortunes have differed since that fateful day 8 years ago.

How pathetic that Everton stopped playing pre-season friendlies against you just because you knocked them out of the FA Cup.
