News today, siphoning through the media is that Tranmere Rovers have released two defenders and two midfielders.

John Mullin made a good impact on the Prenton Park faithful when he arrived at Tranmere. However, as time went on and he got further into his two year deal at the club, his form deteriorated and he was dogged by injury. In light of these circumstances, it appears that Ronnie Moore has decided to let him go.

Mike Jones has shown promise over the last couple of years and has put in some solid performances. In particular Jones turn the F.A Cup third round game against Hereford in Tranmere’s favour and was a key factor in gaining a replay at the League Two side. Although industrious, it appears that for what ever reason Jones will be seeking employment at another club in the coming months.

Michael Johnston made a huge impact on Bangor’s season. Ronnie Moore loaned the young centre back out to the Welsh Premier side and his short spell at the club earnt him two end of season awards in recognition for his outstanding performances. However, it seems that that was not enough to encourage Ronnie Moore and Michael to agree to signing a new contract and if reports are correct then he will be looking for employment elsewhere.

Robbie Stockdale came to Tranmere with Ronnie Moore and was one of his first signings. Ever solid behind the wayward and gung-ho style of Shuker, Robbie was often left exposed on the right hand side of the Rovers’ formation. This exposure however never hindered his performances and he always put in a solid tackle. His distribution was competent and when Shuker was struck down by and injury, Robbie showed the Tranmere fans just what he could do going forward by putting in crosses and even registering some shots. From what other media sources are telling, Robbie and the club have not agreed a new contract and he will be released. Rumours were rife earlier in the week that Aberdeen were interested in the Right back so there could be some employment for the experienced Scot in his home-land.

On a lighter note, Paul Henry has been rewarded with a one-year extension to stay on at the club until 2009.

Vital Tranmere have not as of yet learnt of the futures of any other Rovers players who are out of contract but rest assured that when the deals are sealed, we will get the news to you in full.

Any of these lads do a good job in league 2 or are they heading up the leagues?

In my opinion Stockdale could ply his trade in The Championship, but it looks like he will be settleing in Aberdeen if rumours are to be believed. Mullin is League Two at best. Johnston is only young and in a few years I think he would cope in League One. Mike Jones would be a League Two player and a good one in my opinion.
