News has been released by Tranmere Rovers F.C today that Ronnie Moore has signed a contract with the club until 2010. For along time now, the club have been handing our two year contracts (or there abouts) and then not renewing them. This news today sounds a first in the club for a very long time.

Ronnie Moore who started and ended his playing career with Tranmere Rovers also started his managerial experience there as a caretaker boss and also as a coach and assistant manager under the Great Johnny King. Earlier he spoke of his commitment to the club:

“I`m delighted to have the opportunity to take the club forward. Tranmere has been a big part of my life, as a footballer, coach and now manager. It means a lot to me that I have the chance to be the one who guides the club back into the Championship.”

Lorraine Rogers commented that: “Ronnie has made some very good signings in his two seasons and was unfortunate with injuries to key players in 2007-08.”

Indeed, Ronnie has bought in the likes of Antony Kay, Danny Coyne, Chris Shuker, Robbie Stockdale and Kevin Ellison from the Championship and even bought Andy Taylor from a Premiership team, Blackburn. This is purpose which has not been seen at Tranmere for a long time. Maybe even since the times when Peter Johnson was bankrolling the club.

Today, we know that Tranmere Rovers have a good chance of gaining promotion to the Championship with someone who has taken a club up to the Championship before and stayed there with them, someone who knows how to play the transfer market and also someone who loves the club and is passionate about the club in the same way that the supporters are.

With all this positive talk and indeed action coming from the club, I am sure there will be a lot more good news to follow in the close season and good news next season as The Rovers push for promotion to the Championship.
