In light of Tranmere’s away form, their home form really needs to hold up. Although it is early in the season, Tranmere need to win this game to make sure they don’t enter a relegatio battle early on.

Vital Quotes:

Ronnie Moore: ‘The away record doesn’t tell the full story. At Swindon we were poor, but at Grimsby we created chances and there were alot of pluses out of the defeat at Leicester.’

‘They play 4-3-3 so it will be a little bit like a chess game I imagine. You don’t have the spare man in there when you’re playing against another 4-3-3. This will be a competetive game. Whoever wins in the middle will be the winners I think.

Tranmere Rovers Team News:

Ronnie Moore should have a full squad to choose from prior to the showdown against Northampton Town except for Liverpool loanee Godwin Antwi. Antwi has had a scan on an injured ankle during the week but Gareth Edds is more than an ample replacement at right back.

Player to watch: Craig Curran

With Ronnie Moore seemingly not knowing what his stsrting eleven is it is hard to pick a key player for Tranmere. Obviously Danny Coyne is the corner-stone of the whole team but I think, in a 4-3-3 formation it is Craig Curran who the fans will look to to win the game for Rovers.

Northampton Town Team News:

Stuart Gray: ‘We have got to put the game at Bolton to bed now and the most important thing is that we are fully focused on the game at Tranmere.’

Player to watch: Leon Constantine

Leon Constantine: If Constantine can find his form and fitness and put away his chances then Tranmere could be looking at a defeat. However, I don’t doubt that Ian Goodison will be on top of the striker.

Match Facts & Stats

Tranmere have played Northampton 36 times previously. Both teams have won 13 of the encounters previously. The last time that Northampton won at Prenton Park was in 1985/86 when Northampton won 3-1.

Match Prediction:

3-1 In favour of Tranmere. Northampton will still be riding high after their recent up exploits versus Bolton and may take their eye of this game.

Next Fixtures:

Tuesday 2nd September Tranmere Rovers take on Accrington Stanley in the Johnson’s Paint Trophy.
